Unprecedented times have caused all of us to rethink how we entertain and maintain a sense of togetherness and community. People after all, are by nature social beings. For the time being and the near future, it remains in all of our best interests to mask up and go outside. Taking cues from our Nordic friends who rarely turn down an opportunity to light a fire, dress warmly, drink spirits that warm the mind and soul, and pass the blankets to friends and family, we are entertaining outdoors as much and as frequently as possible. Dinner is served earlier to capture the golden hour light—a magical time of day that bathes everything in a warm glow perfect for setting a relaxing mood to the occasion. All of us have a need for fun and while our entertaining is often for smaller groups, every detail matters. Setting a table outdoors is much the same as indoors. Candles create a wonderful ambience, and flowers, store bought or cut from nearby trees or bushes, liven up the table and send a powerful, wordless message that the company is much appreciated and special. At the end of evening, it is the heart put into the night that will be remembered.
