Gien Blue Peonies Museum Vase
Product Description
Drawn from the Gien archives and inspired by the 1875 Peonies (pivoines in French) collection, Blue Peonies celebrates fanciful flora in vivid shades of blue. The design carries a subtle nod to the elegance of Japanese china, alongside a quiet salute to the house’s enduring legacy. Each piece is hand painted.
Nearly two centuries of craftsmanship shape every work of Gien faience. Created in Gien, France, in a converted convent overlooking the Loire River, each stage of production takes place on site, from locally sourced raw materials to final firing. Faience is fired at traditionally lower temperatures, lending a distinctive richness and depth of color. Stronger than pottery or ceramics, Gien is made for everyday use.
Founded in 1821 near the châteaux of the Loire Valley, the Faïencerie de Gien is celebrated for warm white clays and classic motifs inspired by the French countryside, with decorative objects and tableware that feel both storied and enduring.
