Berti Champagne Saber Boxwood Handle
Product Description
A work of art that deserves to be displayed. Fine scroll work is hand engraved and the saber honors history and tradition.
In the late 18th century, Napoleon seized control of much of Europe. In the euphoria of returning home victorious, citizens would toss bottles of champagne to soldiers. Nearly impossible on horseback to unwrap the foil and uncork a champagne bottle, soldiers began using their sabers to whack off the tops of the bottles with a saber. So pleasing and entertaining was the practice, the champagne saber was born.
