Bertozzi’s heritage linens are a celebration of Italian artisanal mastery, where every napkin, table runner, tablecloth, and pillow cover, becomes a canvas for centuries-old tradition.
Rooted in a family workshop founded in 1920, each textile is lovingly fashioned from 100% European flax linen, chosen for its natural strength, breathability, and elegant drape.
The hallmark of Bertozzi’s creations lies in its hand-block printing technique. Expert carvers transform blocks of pearwood into intricate stamps—each one a miniature work of art. These blocks are meticulously hand carved, ensuring that motifs such as sinuous sardines, fabulous fish schools, and lush botanical tendrils capture every delicate detail. When pressed into linen fabric, they impart a pattern and also a subtle textural relief that speaks to the human touch behind every stroke.
Color at Bertozzi is a living tradition. Proprietary vegetable dye recipe, passed from one generation to the next, use only the pure plant extracts: indigo leaves for deep ocean blues, madder root for warm terracotta, and weld and turmeric blends for buttery golds. Milled and mixed in small batches, these natural dyes are gently simmered and cooled to achieve color depths that grow richer with every wash. A low-energy steaming process sets the dyes, honoring both the environment and the fabric’s integrity. Sustainability is woven into every stage of production. Solar panels power the dye kitchen, and all wastewater is filtered and returned to the land. Offcuts of linen are repurposed into sample swatches or sent to small-scale composting, ensuring zero landfill waste.
Whether setting a Bohemian beach tablescape, a garden party luncheon, or a celebratory dinner party, Bertozzi napkins, runners, and tablecloths carry the essence of Italian heritage in which natural elements, artisan creativity, and hundreds of years of experience unite to create linens with a history that are designed with intention, meaning, and heart.
