Vintage 19th Century Mahogany and Brass Bound Oyster Bucket
Product Description
This rare 1840s hand crafted oyster bucket is made of richly grained mahogany and fitted with coopered brass bands for strength and durability. A removable brass pan rests in the bucket's center and was originally purposed for collecting and rinsing oysters. The solid brass swinging handle allows for easy transport from shore to kitchen. Used almost two hundred years ago this bucket was an essential tool for coastal life where England’s oyster rich estuaries were flush with bivalves that were gathered at low tide and carried inland. A utilitarian object turned heirloom, it is still functional as a down by the shore collecting bucket but also is makes a stunning vessel for displaying a large floral arrangement.Product Details
