Product Description

This  absinthe pitcher was produced by the celebrated Faïencerie d'Onnaing, one of France's most inventive ceramic manufactories. Modeled in the form of a duck standing in the reeds and finished with the vibrant detail and expressive character for which Onnaing became renowned, the piece reflects the playful artistry that distinguished French faience at the turn of the twentieth century.

During the Belle Époque, absinthe occupied a central place in French café culture and social life. Water was traditionally poured slowly over sugar and into the emerald spirit, transforming it into the milky drink known as the "green fairy." Specialized pitchers such as this example were designed specifically for that ritual, making them both functional objects and decorative centerpieces for the table.
