An extraordinary English mahogany easel of impressive scale, crafted in the mid nineteenth century for the working artist’s studio. The richly patinated wood and commanding proportions give the piece the presence of architectural furniture rather than a simple studio object. Once intended to hold large canvases in progress, it now offers a dramatic way to display artwork, antique maps, or oversized framed pieces within a library, gallery, or drawing room. A rare survivor from the age of portrait painters and grand English ateliers.
