Product Description

Handcrafted in northern Japan, this large Nanbu cast iron kettle carries with it centuries of artistry and ritual. The powerful dragon motif, an emblem of strength, protection, and prosperity, winds across the surface as both ornament and symbol. The dense iron body holds heat with remarkable consistency, keeping water warm for longer and subtly enriching it with minerals said to soften bitterness and heighten the natural sweetness of green tea. More than a vessel, the tetsubin is regarded as a keeper of spirit and patience, its presence on the tea table a reminder of continuity, reverence, and the enduring beauty of Japanese craftsmanship refined through generations.

A tetsubin is primarily for heating water, not steeping leaves directly. Use the kettle to pour hot water over tea in a separate teapot.

Care

Rinse gently with warm water before the first use. Never use soap or detergents. Avoid sudden high heat, as this can stress the iron. Do not let the kettle boil dry. After use, pour out any remaining water and dry the kettle completely with the lid off. Never leave water standing inside, as this may encourage rust. Wipe the exterior with a soft dry cloth while it is still warm to maintain its subtle sheen.
