Product Description

Handcrafted in Japan, this large Nanbu cast iron kettle embodies centuries of northern artistry and tradition. Adorned with a dragon motif, it symbolizes strength, protection, and good fortune. The dense iron body retains heat beautifully, allowing water to stay warm for longer, while the interior is finished for everyday use. A piece of functional sculpture, it brings ritual and reverence to the tea table and stands as a testament to Japanese craftsmanship refined through generations. The Japanese tea tradition views the tetsubin not just as a kettle, but as a vessel of spirit and patience.

The dragon motif you see on many Nanbu kettles symbolizes protection and prosperity, infusing the daily ritual of boiling water with a sense of continuity and reverence.

The mineral-rich water boiled in iron kettles is said to soften bitterness and enhance the sweetness of green tea.

Care

Rinse gently with warm water before the first use. Never use soap or detergents. Avoid sudden high heat, as this can stress the iron. Do not let the kettle boil dry. After use, pour out any remaining water and dry the kettle completely with the lid off. Never leave water standing inside, as this may encourage rust. Wipe the exterior with a soft dry cloth while it is still warm to maintain its subtle sheen.
