Bearing an English diamond registration mark for April 29, 1873, this remarkable George Jones majolica cheese dome was originally made for serving Stilton at the Victorian table. Cobalt blue provides a dramatic ground for apple blossoms and branches sculpted in relief, while basket-weave detailing appears on the lifting knob, base of the dome, and rim of the platter. Lift the cover to reveal an unexpected robin’s egg blue interior, a beautiful contrast to the richly ornamented exterior.
