Product Description
Made in France circa 1880, this fruitwood and pine Table de Vigneron, or wine tasting table, reflects a practical form long associated with the vineyards and cellars of the French countryside. Its generous round top rests upon a wedge shaped trestle base with a pivoting V shaped support, an ingenious construction designed for both use and storage.
Traditionally used by vignerons for tasting wine, the tabletop tilts from horizontal to vertical, allowing the table to be stored against a cellar wall when space was needed for barrels, harvest work, or movement through the room. The simple mechanism and substantial proportions speak to its origins as a working piece of French wine culture
