Vintage 1950s Royal Copenhagen Polar Bear portrays one of the Arctic's most commanding animals in a moment of quiet concentration. With its head lowered as though peering through the ice in search of its next meal, the sculpture captures the alert posture and restrained power that define the polar bear in its natural habitat. Crafted in fine porcelain by the renowned Royal Copenhagen factory and designed by Arnold Krog, the figure displays the subtle modeling and softly glazed surface for which the Danish maker became internationally admired. The gentle gradations of white and pale gray lend depth to the bear's thick coat, while the naturalistic pose reflects the Scandinavian tradition of observing wildlife with remarkable sensitivity and precision.
