These candlesticks reflect the technical mastery that made Venetian glass the standard by which all others have long been judged. The aqua cups and bases are shaped with crisp ribbing and flowing curves, details made possible by the exceptionally pure silica mixture used by Murano artisans, whose glass remains workable long enough to achieve extraordinary precision. Within each sculptural dolphin stem, genuine 24-karat gold leaf is suspended inside the molten glass, creating a warm shimmer that will never wear away because the gold forms part of the glass itself. Since 1291, glassmaking has been legally confined to the island of Murano, preserving centuries of closely guarded techniques passed from one generation of master craftsmen to the next.
