1900 English Pointer Hunting Dogs Pendant Pair Oil Paintings
Product Description
1900 English Pointer Hunting Dogs Oil Paintings by G. Fradet capture the anticipation and sudden exhilaration of a day in the field. Painted as a pendant pair, each canvas follows two English Pointers at work. In one, the dogs move intently through the grasses, noses tuned to the scent of game; in the other, birds burst into flight as the dogs remain alert below. Together, the paintings tell the story of the hunt in two beautifully observed moments.
Fradet sets the dogs within expansive country landscapes painted in the mellow colors of late summer turning toward autumn. Ochre grasses, russet earth, olive green foliage, touches of gold and cream, and a softly blue distance give each scene its own atmosphere. Loose, confident brushwork keeps the countryside alive around the four athletic dogs, whose pale coats and distinctive markings emerge naturally from the landscape.
These sporting life paintings retain their handsome gilt gesso frames, original wood stretchers, and early wooden turn buttons. Age has darkened the inner wood and softened the gilding over more than a century, leaving the frames with the layered surface and patina that only time can produce.
