Vintage 19th Century German Ceremonial Drinking Horn
Product DescriptionIron floral design fittings and a rope strap embellish this uncommonly large ceremonial German drinking vessel. Since classical antiquity, the cornucopia or horn of plenty, represents abundance and nourishment. As important ceremonial pieces, decorated horns were used for toasting throughout the middle ages, and remain in use today especially in Germanic Europe and the Balkans.
